Welcome to the Shade Tree Kennels website.  We are located in La Center, Washington, about 20 miles north of Portland, OR.  We are a small family kennel in business to breed only the best AKC/APLA Pointing Labrador’s and German Shorthaired Pointers available on the west coast. We want our dogs to hunt hard all day, have awesome stick-it-in-the-ground points, great noses, be excellent retrievers and be your companion and family dog as well. That’s a pretty tall order for most dogs. Not at Shade Tree Kennels. We back our dogs with only the best of bloodlines. Grand Master Pointing Labs and National Field Trial Champions? They’re in our pedigree’s. Hall of Fame honored dogs?  You bet.  If it’s working bloodlines you want, you’ve found them at Shade Tree Kennels. Whether you are looking for a Pointing Lab or a German Shorthair, you’ve come to the right place!

We are proudly introducing STK’s Tub Full Of Mallard’s (Ted) the newest addition to the Shade Tree Kennel family.   Ted is the son of Hanna and 1.5x GMPR Tiger Mtn’s Mallard Chaser SH.   He’s proving to be all we hoped for, having just earned his AKC Junior Hunter title on his first birthday!   Ted is a beautiful light yellow, has a great tri-pod point, massive hunting instinct, is extremely trainable and will be our stud dog in the future.  Watch for Ted on the AKC Hunt Test and APLA circuit this year, handled by Ryan Fortier of Long Hollow Retrievers. Ted and Ryan are doing extremely well and we think Ted’s going to be a great one!

We’ve also added STK McDuff’s Scottish Ale to the family.  Duffy is a neutered male, 2 years old and the son of Hannah and the now deceased Shadow Mountain’s Pale Ale (Brew).   Duffy has had 4 months professional training with Julie Knutson of Gun Club Labradors, was hunted over hundred’s of birds in the South Dakota fields last year and is for sale to the right buyer who wants an outstanding retriever and waterfowl dog. Please contact us for more information on Duffy.

Feel free to browse through our website. Take a look at our dogs. We’d love to hear from you if you are considering getting a new dog, looking for a place to hunt (we can recommend several in the Northwest) or just want to chat about dogs. Thanks for visiting and we hope to hear from you soon.
